Good morning. Soaked. Widespread flooding throughout the northeast after a fourth straight day of heavy rain. We’re live outside of Boston where a state of emergency has now been declared. Together again. The first photos of Tiger Woods with his wife Elin since the sex scandal broke. What is the state of their marriage? And still the king! Michael Jackson’s estate finds the richest recording contract in history. The details of the $200 million deal today, Tuesday, March 16, 2010. From NBC News, this is TODAY with Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira live from studio 1A in Rockefeller Plaza.
And welcome to TODAY on this Tuesday morning. I’m Meredith Vieira. I’m David Gregory in this morning while Matt is on assignment. Always nice to see you. Nice to see you as well. Also nice to see that the rain is finally over. But it’s still pretty wet out there around the northeast. And it’s left a lot of damage. Four days of downpours have forced rivers to crest, and in many cases, overflow up and down the east coast.
Take a look at the scene in Wayne, New Jersey right now where roads and parking lots have literally been turned into lakes. And in Billerica, Massachusetts which is about 20 miles north of Boston, an entire neighborhood is under water. We’ll have a live update on the situation, also else forecast in just a moment.
Also coming up this morning, those sad new details in the murder of a US consulate official and her husband who were shot and killed in an SUV right in front of their 7-month-old daughter. Apparently that woman was also pregnant. We’re going to get the very latest on the investigation and find out what is happening with that couple’s little girl straight ahead. Very sad.
Today, Sony is expected to announce the biggest recording deal in history. It’s a $200 million guaranteed contract with the estate of Michael Jackson for 10 projects over 7 years including an album of never before released Jackson recordings. And people around the world are remembering a small man with a very big heart. The Guinness book of world records announced Monday that Ping Ping, the world’s shortest man, died last weekend from heart trouble at the age of 21. Ping Ping stood just two foot five, but he spread joy wherever he went.
