Good evening. We’re going to talk a few things climate related here tonight because while that global warming conference goes on in Copenhagen, we’ve got the opposite problem in the eastern half of the nation. Tonight a major winter storm churning격렬한 움직임 from south to north through some major population centers 50 million people in its path in all. It makes for obvious problems as you look at Roanoke, Virginia tonight.

 

Blizzard warnings in parts of New York. Potential paralysis마비 in Washington. The kind usually reserved for congress. Some bands of this storm will drop 15-18 inches of snow in their wake. And there’s an economic angle about a third of some of the biggest retailing chain stores in the country are going to have a bad Saturday with people unable to shop this close to Christmas.

 

Tonight, brace for impact. A major storm is working its way up the east coast bringing heavy snow, ice and nightmare travel, the weekend before Christmas. I’m Katie Courtic. The Washington area could get 20 inches of snow. So the president’s returning early from Copenhagen. This is the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.

 

Good evening, everyone. Winter will officially begin on Monday, but much of the east coast is about to get a preview. A big storm that caused serious flooding in the south is now heading north with ice and snow and getting stronger. All kinds of weather alerts are up including blizzard warnings from North Carolina to New Hampshire. We’ll be talking with CBS Early Show weather anchor David Price in just a moment. But first, national correspondent Jeff Glor. And Jeff? This is going to be tough the weekend before Christmas.
