And Royal Wedding? Is Prince William finally set to announce his long awaited engagement to girl friend Kate Middleton? The speculation sweeping in from across the Atlantic today. From NBC News, this is TODAY with Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira live from studio 1A in Rockefeller Plaza. Good morning, Meredith. You know for the royally obsessed, it’s the ultimate question. When is the Prince going to propose? But for the royally frustrated including perhaps Kate Middleton herself, the question is, why hasn’t he done it already?
Palace insiders say only the prince knows, and he keeps any talk of the seven-year relationship pretty private. But that doesn’t stop the rumors. The latest comes from former friend of Princess Diana, Tina Brown. On her website, The Daily Beast, Brown predicts an early summer engagement. “A high-placed source in royal circles tells me that two days in June have mysteriously been blocked out on the palace diaries, June 3rd and 4th.”
The wedding, Brown writes, will follow in November. The same matrimonial schedule as the Queen who married Prince Phillip in November, 1947. It will also avoid any comparisons to the lavish mid-summer ceremony held for Charles and Diana. The wedding naysayers have a list of reasons why it won’t be happening so soon. In June, Prince William will still be training as a search and rescue pilot, making it difficult to get down to London and pop the question.
Later that month, the brother’s royal will be taking their first high-profile trip together to Africa. And perhaps most importantly, their increasingly money-conscious grandmother who recently took the train as a frugal gesture may not want to hold an extravagant wedding during a painful recession. “Sort of other rumor going around that he wants to wait until Charles has become king before he gets married.” The Queen, an energetic 84-years-old, might have a word or two to say about that plan.
The prince is getting pressure from all sides, even some say from the potential in-laws. Kate Middleton's parents own a party supply business. It used to be dedicated to children's birthdays,
but just recently they started a new division, Meredith, wedding decorations.
