Maisa Johnson with her two young children openly grieving her husband, Army Sergeant Ladavid Johnson. Sergeant Johnson was one of 4 American soldiers killed in Niger. His body arriving Tuesday in his hometown of Miami. This morning, president Trump is facing a new firestorm over his phone call to Johnson’s widow.
Democratic Florida representative Federico Wilson says he was riding in a car with Johnson’s widow in route to the arrival of her husband’s body when the president called. The congresswoman telling NBC’s Miami station WTVJ “Basically he was saying that he was sorry that she has a sympathy, but he was hoping that even though her husband gave his life for this country, sarcastically he say it, but you know he must have known what he’d signed up for. How could you say that to a grieving widow?” The congress woman said the call lasted 3 to 5 minutes. And the widow’s only response was “Thank You” at the end.
